Apple has introduced new hearing health functionalities for AirPods Pro 2 users in Australia, following approval from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). These features include a Hearing Test, a clinical-grade Hearing Aid function and Loud Sound Reduction, all designed to enhance accessibility and reduce the stigma associated with traditional hearing aids.
The new Hearing Test allows users to assess their hearing directly through their AirPods Pro 2 when paired with a compatible iPhone or iPad. This self-administered test provides an audiogram and personalized recommendations, which users can share with their healthcare providers for further evaluation.
Leveraging the results from the Hearing Test, the Hearing Aid feature offers real-time, personalized sound amplification. Aimed at individuals with mild to moderate hearing loss, this function provides a discreet and cost-effective alternative to conventional hearing aids. Additionally, Loud Sound Reduction minimizes exposure to high levels of environmental noise, ensuring an immersive audio experience while protecting users’ hearing.
According to Apple’s announcement, these features were initially launched in Australia with plans to expand to other regions in the near future. By integrating advanced hearing assistance into a popular consumer device, Apple is taking a significant step toward making hearing health more accessible and socially accepted.
